Hello there! Thanks for visiting! My name is Zilá (“zee-lah”). I grew up in beautiful Rio de Janeiro, Brasil and I’ve lived in Arizona with my husband, our two beautiful children and our lovely cats since 2002. I enjoy simplicity, nature and unpretentious life. I admire authenticity and I covet true friendships. I am down to earth and I have a passion for great adventures, simple pleasures like a delicious cup of coffee and a nice book, cats, traveling, sewing, art, music and warm sunny days.
Photography is one of my favorite things in life, and it all started at age of 13 when my dad let me play with his old Kodak Instamatic, point and shoot camera. It was love at first sight. I love capturing bits of this crazy, beautiful life journey as it happens.
In 1994, after graduating in Early Childhood Education, I attended photography school for one year. I come from film school, and I taught myself digital photography, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop at my own pace. I believe my art is constantly evolving and that feeds my soul.
I am very fond of black and white portraiture and documentary style photos. I also enjoy shooting the nature as well as macros and still life. I would love to travel around the world and document the richness of other cultures. While this dream hasn’t become reality, I photograph my humble surroundings.
Publications and Licensed Works: Some of my photographs were published in Easy Living magazine UK, April 2010 Anniversary edition, Apartment Therapy, and one image was published on Popular Photography Magazine, with honorable mention – March 2004. Recently a brief appearence on ABC Extreme Makeover – Zdroj family with Murals Your Way. Some of my photographs were licensed to: Art.com, Murals Your Way, Pottery Barn Kids and The Land of Nod.
